Formally titled ISO/IEC 42001:2023 Information Technology – Artificial Intelligence – Management System, ISO 42001 is an international standard that provides a structured framework through which organisations can establish, implement, maintain and continually improve an artificial intelligence management system (AIMS). Implementing an ISO 42001-conformant AIMS enables organisations that develop or utilise AI systems to demonstrate the reliability and trustworthiness of these systems, thereby providing greater assurance to their clients and users.
The Standard takes a risk-based approach to AI management, and covers the entire lifecycle of AI systems, including design and development, deployment, and monitoring. It is applicable to all AI systems, from natural language processing and computer vision to deep learning, and to all organisations of any size or sector that develop, provide or use AI-based products and services.
